About the event
Join Cook County United Against Hate, Cook County Commissioner Scott Britton, and Holy Family Catholic Community for a screening of the film "Refuge," followed by a panel discussion with faith leaders on accepting "strangers" into our community. The film, executive produced by Kate Couric, tells the story of Chris - a husband and father, a veteran, and until recently, a leader in the KKK. He started hating Muslims when the planes hit the Twin Towers, but is forced to confront his hate when he receives a text from Muslim refugee, Heval.
In this time of deep polarization, this film aims to awaken a sense of empathy in viewers and to equip audience members with the tools they need to bring about a more informed, connected, and empathetic society.
